If you require only background jazz or swing music, a trio or a duo will suffice. These combinations will allow for token dancing if needed. Popular options are:

Drums are required if you want to encourage dancing or for a more upbeat sound. A group with drums can still perform softly for background music as needed.

Empire Jazz Trio - This Trio performs with saxophone, piano, and string bass.
Empire Swing Band - This band can perform with up to six musicians that include saxophone, piano, string bass, drums, trumpet and a female vocalist.

Interlude Swing Band - performs with from four (keyboard/vocals, saxophone, bass and drums) to seven musicians (with trumpet, trombone and guitar) musicians.

JG Swing Band - This band can perform with from four to six musicians. The Quartet consists of keyboard/trumpet/vocals, bass/vocals, guitar and drums. With five musicians, the group performs with either a female vocalist or saxophonist, and with six performers the group performs with all of the above musicians.

Miles Stiebel Band - As heard on over 90 radio stations and on the Weather Channel, this contemporary jazz band provides a unique, uplifting sound with the violin taking the lead.
Nau Jazz Ensemble - This ensemble performs with saxophone, piano, bass and drums. Optional horns and a string section can be added.
Pendulum Trio - This Trio performs with violin, piano, and string bass.

Raggs & the All Stars - The band has a classic 40's look, with vintage tuxes and music stand fronts. They specialize in the Big Band Sound but can include some rock oldies if needed. The band performs with from eight to fourteen musicians with the option of adding three violinists or additional horns.
Classic Jazz Trio - This Trio performs with trumpet, guitar and string bass. The guitarist can use a battery amplifier to allow the Trio to easily relocate or to perform where no electricity is available.
